What Causes Uterine Prolapse?
A prolapsed uterus results from a lack of uterine support against the forces operating to force it downwards. The uterus is normally held in position above the vagina by strong connective tissues and the pelvic floor muscles. Uterine prolapse results when these supportive tissues supporting become stretched, strained and weakened.
Uterine Prolapse Exercises
There are two types of exercise important for supporting a prolapsed uterus and reducing the likelihood of the condition worsening:
1. Pelvic floor exercises – pelvic floor exercises can reduce prolapse symptoms and elevate the pelvic floor and prolapsed tissues higher within the pelvis.
2. Pelvic floor safe exercises – appropriate strength and fitness exercises help to reduce pelvic floor stress, strain and allow women to exercise safely for their health and fitness despite their prolapse. Safe general exercise can also assist with weight management, another important factor in prolapse management.
