What our readers tell us…your stories

I too have had prolapse surgery twice. I am currently in my early stages of recovery and I also found that advice from doctors, nurses and gym instructors was of no help. I went back to the gym after my first prolapse surgery and I am sure I damaged myself even further after the first surgery as my prolapse worsened over time. Before my second surgery I decided to train as a personal trainer and I feel I am now able to train without fear of doing damage especially with the help of your videos and your book Inside Out which I received just before I went in for surgery a couple of months ago. I hope to use my knowledge to help other women who are in my position or may be at risk of doing damage with certain training programs. The fact that this information is free and informative to women is fantastic and I thank you greatly. Meg

I have just suffered a uterine prolapse and believe that several months of pilates exercise classes leading up to the prolapse “moment’ and beyond have exacerbated this condition. my doctor says that the ligaments that keep the uterus in position have stretched and my belief is that the sorts of exercises i was encouraged to do in Pilates are ones i should have, in fact, avoided. I have no idea, at this stage, how to go about getting my uterus back where it should be and ligaments tightened….. I think that Pilates instructors should pre-screen their clients much more closely than they currently do.     J

I have always loved exercise and tried hard to get back into shape after my big baby boys were born. At the time I knew my pelvic floor was weak but I had no idea that going to the gym, lifting weights, doing situps and running was going to cause me some big problems which I think it did. Ten years later and aged only 43 I have problems with a prolapse of the back wall of my vagina and a rectal prolapse to (not helped by having to strain to use my bowels). I think women should know the exercises that can cause them these types of problems so they can avoid what has happened to me. I now need to have surgery and be very careful how I exercise for the rest of my life. Thank you for your information which I have not been able to find anywhere else.  Lisa

Thank you for the exercises and for Inside Out. They have really helpful during my recovery from a TAH in March.  Kate

Thankyou so much receiving your emails makes me feel so much better. Your book has given me confidence that I can still keep in shape with out doing any further damage to my weak pelvic floor. I had surgery three months ago for stress incontinence. I like other women in your book made my problem worse with pilates and boot camps. I was very depressed when my surgeon made me promise I would not go back to the gym. I am 37 years old and I want to stay fit and healthy so thankyou.    Siobhan

Hi Michelle

Yes l would like to receive information and updates from you, finding your
book Inside Out was a break through. l have had my operation via BUPA in the UK, l
was given no exercise guide or advice. My consultant said that had l not
been sexual active he would have done a full sew up, not something l want
done if l can avoid it.

l had a hysterectomy and anterior repair in 93 when l was 34. Was never
told it was something that could happen again.

l am now 3.5 weeks into recovery for an anterior and posterior repair and
l want to make sure this lasts. From reading your book last night l would
have put myself at huge risk doing exercises including those in my pilates
class that are no longer suitable but that l was doing before my
operation!!  Regards Tammy
